Another Kind of Light

VIRGINIA CUPPAIDGE may have lived in New York for 45 years; however looking at her abstract works it is undoubtable her memories of Australian light and colour have continued to feed her work. ‘Works on paper’—created in SoHo, New York in the 1970s—reveal the artist’s uninhibited exploration of light, the bleached colours reminiscent of the harsh Australian sun during a hot summer.
