Art Month Sydney is delighted to announce the appointment of Glenn Barkley as Artistic Director for 2015

Posted on Tuesday, 15 July, 2014

Art Month Sydney is delighted to announce the appointment of dynamic senior curator Glenn Barkley as Artistic Director for 2015. Barkley has many years of curatorial experience and is passionate about connecting and collaborating with living artists. As part of his appointment Barkley will also curate Collector’s Space, an annual Art Month initiative that celebrates art collecting.

Barkley said of his appointment: I’m really pleased to be part of the Art Month team for 2015. I was involved in the first Art Month as a speaker and now to be on board as Artistic Director is quite a thrill. My curatorial practice is very much about engaging with artists and art in an accessible way and I look forward to bringing my ideas and networks to Art Month 2015.

An independent curator based in Sydney Australia, Barkley was Senior Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) Australia from 2008 to 2014. He was previously the Curator of the University of Wollongong Art collection (1996-2007). Between 2007-2008 he was Director and Curator of the Ergas Collection. Barkley has written extensively on Australian art and culture for Art Monthly, Artist Profile and Art and Australia/ARTAND as well as for numerous catalogues and monographs. He has a diverse area of interest and knowledge including public art; artist books and ephemera; outsider art and other marginal art forms; public and private collection management and development, and horticulture.

Art Month Chair, Natalia Bradshaw commented: Glenn Barkley’s appointment is an exciting development for Art Month. His curatorial eye and irreverent sense of humour bode well for a memorable festival in 2015.

The sixth Art Month Sydney festival will run from March 6-29, 2015, bringing together exhibitions in commercial galleries, artist-run spaces and public art galleries across the city including a world-class line-up of Australian and international artists.

We look forward to seeing Glenn's vision come to life next March!
