A night of Art & Film at Sydney's Golden Age

Posted on Thursday, 24 July, 2014

Last Wednesday Art Month members were treated to a night of art, film and cocktails in the beautifully restored Art Deco Paramount House. Ahead of their August exhibition at Roslyn Oxley 9, artist duo Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro presented a special viewing of 1973 cult horror classic, The Wicker Man.

Recently returned from a residency Kuala Lumpur, Claire and Sean have also lived and worked in Tokyo & Berlin and have had numerous international exhibitions. In 2009 their work Life Span was included in the 53rd Venice Biennale and in 2012 they had a major survey show at the MCA.

Before the screening the pair spoke with Golden Age Programmer and film critic, Kate Jinx about their nomadic lifestyle and the concept of "home" in their practice, themes that feature in their current exhibition, Venereal Architecture, at Roslyn Oxley 9. This new body of work, comprising of lego creatures intwined with Ikea furniture, echoes the interplay between the surreal and the everyday which permeates The Wicker Man.

For more information about Cordeiro and Healy's exhibition, which opens on the 1st of August and runs until the 30th, visit http://www.roslynoxley9.com.au/exhibitions/

The Art Month Members program is designed for anyone who is interested in deepening their involvement in contemporary art in Sydney. You can view more information about Art Month membership here and check out images of the event here.
